Citizens Advice Peterborough

Charity

Citizens Advice Peterborough needed a modern, accessible website that reflected the vital role they play in the local community. We designed and built a bespoke site that makes it easier for people to find help, learn about volunteering, and stay up to date with their latest news.

The Challenge

The starting point
and the problem.

Citizens Advice Peterborough is a registered local charity offering free, confidential, and impartial advice on everything from benefits and housing to debt and employment. They play a significant role in the lives of many people across Peterborough, yet their website did not reflect that impact. The existing WordPress site was outdated, lacked visual warmth, and made it difficult for visitors to find what they needed quickly.

The team wanted a website that felt welcoming and professional, one that communicated their services clearly while also encouraging people to volunteer and get involved. It also needed to be easy for their internal team to update, particularly for news posts and volunteer opportunities, without relying on outside help every time something changed.

We began by creating a detailed wireframe to map out the structure of the site, covering key pages such as the homepage, service listings, and the volunteer section. This gave the Citizens Advice Peterborough team a clear picture of how visitors would move through the content before we moved into the full design phase.

Our Approach

How we made
it happen.

We designed the full site with clarity, accessibility, and warmth as the guiding principles. The goal was to create something that felt both professional and genuinely approachable, true to the charity's audience and values. We structured the content carefully to highlight their services, introduce the team, and make community involvement easy to explore. Every design decision was made with the end user in mind, particularly people who might be coming to the site in difficult circumstances and need to find help quickly.

Once the design was signed off, we built the site with a fully responsive layout and performance-optimised experience across all devices. Smooth animations and subtle transitions were incorporated to lift the overall feel of the site without overwhelming the user. These details add polish without distracting from the content that matters most.

To give the Citizens Advice Peterborough team full control over their own content, we built two custom CMS collections: one for blog-style news and updates, and another for managing volunteer job postings. Both collections allow the team to publish and update content themselves, keeping the site current and relevant without needing to come back to us for every change.

The Results

What we
delivered.

  1. 01Fully bespoke website designed from scratch to reflect the charity's values
  2. 02Responsive build that works across all devices and screen sizes
  3. 03CMS for the team to publish news and updates independently
  4. 04CMS for managing volunteer job postings without developer support
  5. 05Smooth animations and transitions that enhance the experience without distraction
  6. 06Google Analytics set up to track visitor activity
  7. 07One-on-one website training session included

The finished website gives Citizens Advice Peterborough a digital presence that matches the professionalism and community impact of their work. Visitors can now find the information they need quickly, whether that is guidance on a specific issue, information about volunteering, or the latest news from the charity.

The custom CMS means the team can publish news and update volunteer listings at any time, keeping the site active and useful. The accessible, well-structured layout also builds trust with visitors who may be coming to the site in stressful situations, making it easier for the charity to deliver genuine value online.

The new platform supports Citizens Advice Peterborough's mission more effectively and positions them to grow their community impact going forward.

Alex has been great - designing the new website for our local charity - Citizen's Advice Peterborough. His comunication is fast and effective, he explains things simply and easily and ensures things look how you want them to. It has been great to work together and we will return if we need any future updates to our website.
